Position Summary:

The Authorization Coordinator is responsible for obtaining prior authorization approvals from insurance companies for patient infusions, medications, and medical/radiology tests. This role involves interacting with insurance providers, healthcare professionals, and patients to ensure timely approvals, while maintaining compliance with insurance policies and healthcare regulations. The Authorizations Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring that patients receive the necessary treatments and services without unnecessary delays, facilitating smooth operations within the healthcare practice.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a medical office, insurance setting, or similar prior authorization role.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, particularly related to neurology (a plus).
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EHR) systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and various insurance portals.
  • Experience with insurance verification and managed care processes
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Preferred:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration or a related field.
  • Experience with medication reimbursement and specialty drug authorization processes.
  • Familiarity with Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) guidelines.
  • Knowledge of medical coding, including CPT and ICD-10
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations
