Position Summary:
The Authorization Coordinator is responsible for obtaining prior authorization approvals from insurance companies for patient infusions, medications, and medical/radiology tests. This role involves interacting with insurance providers, healthcare professionals, and patients to ensure timely approvals, while maintaining compliance with insurance policies and healthcare regulations. The Authorizations Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring that patients receive the necessary treatments and services without unnecessary delays, facilitating smooth operations within the healthcare practice.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a medical office, insurance setting, or similar prior authorization role.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, particularly related to neurology (a plus).
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EHR) systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and various insurance portals.
- Experience with insurance verification and managed care processes
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred:
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration or a related field.
- Experience with medication reimbursement and specialty drug authorization processes.
- Familiarity with Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) guidelines.
- Knowledge of medical coding, including CPT and ICD-10
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations
