Shannan Ricoy, Ph.D., PA-C Commack Physician Assistant
Shannan Ricoy, PhD, PA-C, earned her Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the New York Institute of Technology in 2003. She went on to complete a Master of Science in Education and Leadership at A.T. Still University in 2009 and later earned her PhD in Leadership Studies, with a concentration in Health Professions Management, from the University of the Cumberlands. Her doctoral research focuses on the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and leadership behaviors among PA educators, an area critical to fostering sustainable leadership in healthcare education.
Dr. Ricoy is an Assistant Professor and Director of Clinical Education at the Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies, where she is committed to advancing clinical training and supporting student success. She also serves as Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee at Hofstra University. In addition, she is a member of Hofstra University’s Senate and serves on institutional committees for both the School of Nursing & Physician Assistant Studies and the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine. Dr. Ricoy is actively involved in professional leadership, serving as Chair of the Elections Committee for the New York State Society of Physician Assistants (NYSSPA), and is a member of both the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) and the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA).
Clinically, Dr. Ricoy has experience in Family Medicine and Neurology, with a particular focus on the diagnosis and management of headache disorders, including the use of Botox for the treatment of chronic migraine. She is committed to a patient-centered approach that emphasizes education, preventive care, and shared decision-making. Her goal is to create a supportive environment where patients feel comfortable, informed, and actively involved in their care.
Outside of her professional work, Dr. Ricoy enjoys spending time with her three children, family, and friends. She is passionate about the outdoors, especially hiking and camping, and enjoys music, reading, and gardening.
